Islam as Merciful Religion - Even during War !

Islam always chooses peace over war. But when you are attacked for no absolute reason except your own belief and even worse you are kicked out out your homes, eventually you have to do something right? These how Quran tells Muslim nations how to commit on peace yet be defensive if they are being attacked.

# You shall not kill any person - for GOD has made life sacred (Quran)

# Allah does not forbid you respecting those who have not made war against you on account of (your) religion, and have not driven you forth from your homes, that you show them KINDNESS and deal with them JUSTLY; surely Allah loves the doers of justice.

# Allah only forbids you, with regard to those WHO FIGHT YOU for (your) Faith, AND DRIVE YOU OUT of your homes, and support (others) in driving you out, from turning to them (for friendship and protection). It is such as turn to them (in these circumstances), that do wrong. (Quran)

# Permission to fight is given to those (i.e. believers against disbelievers), who are fighting them, (and) because they (believers) have been wronged, and surely, Allah is Able to give them (believers) victory. [They are] those who have been evicted from their homes without right - only because they say, "Our Lord is Allah ." (Quran)

# And were it not that Allah checks the people, some by means of others, there would have been demolished MONASTERIES, CHURCHES, SYNAGOGUES, AND MOSQUES in which the name of Allah is much mentioned. And Allah will surely support those who support Him. Indeed, Allah is Powerful and Exalted in Might. (Quran)

# Fight in the way of Allah those WHO FIGHT YOU but do not transgress. Indeed. Allah does not like transgressors (Quran)

How Muslims should act during war

# And if one of the idolaters seek protection from you (O Muhammad), grant him protection till he hears the word of Allah, then make him attain his place of safety; this is because they are a people who do not know. (Quran)

# And they (the righteous) give food in spite of love for it to the needy, the orphan, and the CAPTIVES [Saying], "We feed you only for the countenance of Allah . We do not wish from you reward or thanks. (Quran)

Do not kill any child, any woman, or any elder or sick person.” (Sunan Abu Dawud)

Do not practice treachery or mutilation.(Al-Muwatta)

Do not uproot or burn palms or cut down fruitful trees.(Al-Muwatta)

Do not slaughter a sheep or a cow or a camel, except for food.” (Al-Muwatta)

Do not kill the monks in monasteries, and do not kill those sitting in places of worship. (Musnad Ahmad Ibn Hanbal)

Do not destroy the villages and towns, do not spoil the cultivated fields and gardens, and do not slaughter the cattle.” (Sahih Bukhari; Sunan Abu Dawud)

Do not wish for an encounter with the enemy; pray to God to grant you security; but when you [are forced to] encounter them, exercise patience.” (Sahih Muslim)

No one may punish with fire except the Lord of Fire.” (Sunan Abu Dawud).

Treatment of captives

Feed the hungry, visit the sick, and set the captives free. (Sahih Bukhari 5058)

I was among the prisoners of war on the day of Badr. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “I enjoin you to treat the captives well.” After I accepted Islam, I was among the Ansar and when the time of lunch or dinner arrived, I would feed the prisoners dates as I had been fed bread due to the command of the Prophet (Mu’jam Al-Kabeer 18444,)

And they give food, in spite of their love for it (or for the love of Him), to the Miskeen (the poor), the orphan, and the captive,(Saying): ‘We feed you seeking Allaah’s Countenance only. We wish for no reward, nor thanks from you’” [QS al-Insaan 76:8-9]

(Ibn Abbas said: Their captives on that day were idolaters. The evidence for that is that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, commanded his companions to be generous to the prisoners on the day of Badr and they would give preference to them in meals over themselves. ,,,, Source: Tafseer Ibn Kathir 76:8)

“After the Battle of Badr, prisoners of war were brought. Among them was Al-Abbas bin Abdul Muttalib. He did not have a shirt on, so the Prophet (peace be upon him) looked for a shirt for him. It turned out that a shirt of Abdullah bin Ubayy was the right size, so the Prophet (peace be upon him) gave it to Al-Abbas to wear and compensated Abdullah with his own shirt.” (Bukhari).

O Prophet! Say to those who are captives in your hands: ‘If Allah finds any good in your hearts, He will give you something better than what has been taken from you and He will forgive you. For Allah is Oft Forgiving, Most Merciful.” (QS Anfal, 70.)

And remember, accept and do not doubt their peace offering..

# If they leave you alone, refrain from fighting you, and offer you peace, then GOD gives you no excuse to fight them (Quran)

# Do not say to one who offers you peace, "You are not a believer," seeking the spoils of this world. For GOD possesses infinite spoils. Remember that you used to be like them, and GOD blessed you. (Quran)

# But if the enemies incline towards peace, do you also incline towards peace. And trust in God! For He is the one who hears and knows all things. (Quran)

# Do not say, that if the people do good to us, we will do good to them; and if the people oppress us, we will oppress them; but determine that if people do you good, you will do good to them; and if they oppress you, you will not oppress them" (Prophet Muhammad)
